Virgie Lee Childress, born on October 26, 1958, in Union City, Tennessee, was a remarkably courageous, generous, and thoughtful individual. Her resilience was a beacon of inspiration to all those around her, and her spirit of generosity touched the lives of many. Virgie was an embodiment of the quote, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" by Martin Luther King Jr., as she tirelessly served others throughout her life. Virgie's long career as a food server in the restaurant industry was a testament to her unwavering work ethic and dedication. Virgie was a proud and independent woman, cherishing her freedom above all else. Despite never marrying, she built a rich tapestry of relationships that were deeply cherished and will be dearly missed. Virgie was the beloved daughter of Alleen Childress and the late Howard Childress. She leaves behind her loving siblings Felice, Elizabeth, Samuel, and Schinita. Virgie was a devoted mother to her son, Kerry, and a doting grandmother to her three grandchildren. She also leaves behind her niece, nephews, great grandkids, and her dear friend, Homer Smith. She was preceded in death by her grandmothers Margie Beasley and Mary Williams, her grandfathers Taylor Jackson and Z.T. Childress, her grandson Treyvon, and her significant other Palacio Mayes.
