Thomas Wayne McLaughlin

–

Eaton Rapids, MI

In the comfort of his own home Thomas Wayne McLaughlin died on December 13, 2017. He was 67.

Tom was born May 11, 1950 to Donald and Genevieve (Lademann) McLaughlin in Grand Rapids, MI. A good brother to seven sisters, Ruth, Kay, Mary, Jane, Donna, Carol, and Sue. Tom grew up in Evart, MI. There he developed his hard work ethic, his love of basketball and his legendary 15ft jump shot.

Tom graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in education. For almost 30 years, Tom taught English and Math at Mason Middle School. Over the years, Tom mentored and taught thousands of students and loved to torment his English classes with his "punny" alternative spelling word definitions. "Tactics- a dyslexic person talking about breath mints"

Tom's greatest joys in life were hunting, fishing and his two sons Micah and Luke. Tom was most alive when he was surrounded by landscapes that were as stoic as he was. New Zealand, Alaska, Canada, and Kenya were once in a lifetime destination, but he much preferred hunting and fishing in Michigan with his sons and close friends.

Tom will be remembered for his humor, his good-heart, his sweet mustache, and his willingness to help those in need.

He is survived by his two sons Micah (Erica and grandkids Asher and Haven) and Luke (granddog Gumbo).

A wake will be held at his house on Friday, December 22nd from 4-7 pm. Guests are encouraged to bring a good story about Tom. All are welcome. 4629 Whittum Rd Eaton Rapids MI 48827. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Earthskills Rendezvous (a non-profit that helps connect people to the outdoors).
