Ted V. Hughes, 74, took his last breath this side of heaven on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. Ted, or "Teddy" as he was affectionally known, was from Syracuse, Indiana and formerly of Port Richey, Florida. He was born on April 19, 1947 in Roanoke, Indiana to V.T. Hughes and Princess "Pat" Olive Weist. Following graduation from Roanoke High School (class of 1965), Ted joined the United States Marine Corp and served in Vietnam. Ted was proud of his service in the Corps and continued to find ways to serve veterans and their families throughout their deployments. Ted worked in management and sales, and as a real estate agent. While living in Florida, Ted was active with VFW Post 7845 where he made many wonderful friends. Ted enjoyed living on or near the water and throughout his life you could often find him fishing in his spare time. Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, Wayne Hughes; and his son, Christopher W. Hughes. He is survived by his daughter, Tracy (Frank) Weller of Lansing, Michigan; daughter-in-law, Erin Hughes of Syracuse, Indiana; step daughter, Jennifer Yates of Tucson, Arizona; sister-in-law, Theresa Hughes of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Seven grandsons, Caleb Weller of Farmington Hills, Michigan, Jonah (Marissa) Weller of Troy, Michigan, Zach (Chelsea) Hughes of Kendallville, Indiana, Christopher Hughes of Kendallville, Indiana, Brent Hughes of Kendallville, Indiana, Mason Christianson of San Diego, California and Sam Applegate of Port Richey, Florida; two granddaughters, Abigail (Andrew) Rezek of Melbourne, Australia and Alexis Shuler of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and five great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later day.
