Went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the age of 71. Born July 22, 1955 to Albert and Maxine (Chadwell) Dropping in Lansing, Michigan. Sonja attended Haslett High School where she graduated from the class of 1973. She would later go on to attend Lansing Community College. Sonja was the owner and operator of Al’s Motel in Bath Township for many years. A former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lansing, she and her husband, Laird had recently become members of Mason First Presbyterian Church. Throughout her life Sonja enjoyed traveling to many places around the world. She especially enjoyed her trips to Europe and Norway. As a proud Norwegian she celebrated her heritage in many ways and loved each opportunity she had to visit. Sonja also enjoyed knitting and sewing, which was a passion that led to many different handmade creations. She was loved by many and will be missed dearly by all who remember her. Preceding her in death were her parents and her brother, Erik Dropping.

Surviving is her husband, Laird Eddie; sons, Trevor (Iliana) Burch, Erik (Carrie) Burch, Wade (Kate) Burch; daughters, Ahn Le, Evelyn (Abel) Chi; 13 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild, as well as many extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026 at Skinner Funeral Home, 101 W. Jolly Rd. Lansing, MI 48910. Family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday from 4 – 6 p.m. at the funeral home, and again on Friday one hour prior to the service.
