Sam Thomas Putmon Sr.
Lansing, Michigan

Passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at the age of 91. Born October 27, 1933 to Early and Bessie (Furline) Putmon in Athens, Alabama. Sam honorably served in the US Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge he came home and on a visit to his brother in Michigan decided to make the move himself. Sam went to work for Bazley’s Meat Market and later as a Meat Cutter for the Kroger Grocery Stores in the Lansing area where he would retire in 1997. He had a passion for collecting pocket knives and watches and always carried a comb in his pocket. He could fix anything with duct tape. Sam was a funny guy with a goofy personality that often made him the center of attention and easy to be around. He was a hard worker, a trait he instilled in his family. Sam was loved dearly and will be missed by all who remember him. Preceding him in death were sisters, Lena, Betty, Christine; brothers, Clyde, Early Jr., Jerry, James; grandson, Randy Putmon Jr. as well as his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sally Putmon; sons, Randolph (Carol) Putmon, Billy Jack (Tammy Viavada) Putmon, Ronald Putmon, Raymond (Kelli) Putmon, Sam (Catherine) Putmon Jr.; 17 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and his best four-legged friend, Callie as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Skinner Funeral Home Lansing Chapel. Family will receive friends for visitation on Friday one hour prior to the service. To share memories and condolences please visit www.SkinnerFuneralHomes.com
