Passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the age of 46 as the result of an automobile accident. Born October 26, 1971 to Walter and Nancy (Merchant) Whalen in Charlotte, Michigan. Rick was the body shop manager for Lakeview Ford in Battle Creek. He was very active in the area with youth sports. Rick officiated youth basketball and also coached youth basketball for both boys and girls in Eaton Rapids. He coached youth football in Potterville, Charlotte and Eaton Rapids and coached baseball in Eaton Rapids and Potterville. Rick was also an umpire for men's softball in Delta Township and Eaton Rapids. He enjoyed the outdoors where he would camp and ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Rick also enjoyed MSU sports, especially basketball and football. Most of all Rick loved his family and friends and all the time he was able to spend with them. Preceding him in death was his father, Walter Whalen.
Surviving are his wife of 17 years, Nancy Whalen; children, Eddie (Kendahl Ramon) Luckett, Jacob Whalen, Chelsey Whalen; granddaughter, Vienna Luckett; sister, Louanna (Jeff Lawson) Hovorka; brother, Walter D. "Buck" (Cheryl) Whalen as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids Chapel. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service for visitation.
