Ray Hoose

Dimondale, Michigan

Ray Edward Hoose of Dimondale, MI passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2026 at the age of 86. He was born December 19, 1939 to Wilbur and Elsie (Brasher) Hoose in Lansing, Michigan and was a lifelong resident of Dimondale. An active man was he, always keeping himself busy. In high school Ray excelled on the football field where he lettered all four years on the Dimondale High School varsity football team. From 1954-1957 he was high scorer in the Tri-C league and All Conference middle linebacker. He also enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and running track. At the age of 15 he was introduced to the sport of boxing when he joined Berl Fields local gym and the rest was history. Ray excelled at boxing, becoming a Golden Gloves boxer, coach and trainer, training many boxing champions throughout the years. Ray was inducted into the Michigan Golden Gloves Hall of Fame on April 18, 2009 with over 54 years in boxing and coaching.

Ray worked for General Motors in Lansing where he retired after 28 years of dedicated service. In his youthful years, he raced cars at Spartan Speedway. Throughout his life he enjoyed the outdoors where he could hunt and fish with his family and friends.

In 1958 Ray married his high school sweetheart and 7th grade friend, Vicki Ramont. Together, they enjoyed a life filled with an abundance of love, laughter, and family with some of their favorite memories made at the cottage on Lake Montcalm. Exhilarating poker and other cards games with the kids during the holidays, taking trips to the casino, and going to his children’s and grandkids’ sporting events were some of his favorite times. Above everything, his family was his proudest accomplishment in life. Ray also thoroughly enjoyed playing cribbage and 7 up/7 down with his mother-in-law, Edna Ramont, brother, Roy Hoose, nephew, Kyle Wethy and cousins, Pat and Linda Murphy. The time shared around celebrations, as well as visits from friends and family, created many lasting memories for all. He was loved by many and will be missed dearly.

Preceding him in death were his parents, stepmother, Pauline Peterman-Hoose, in-laws, Victor and Edna Ramont, sisters-in-law, Marilyn Ramont, Ginger Lefke-Lawler and Debbie Hoose, brother-in-law, Kenny Ramont, nephews, Shawn Hoose, Kyle Wethy, and Brent and Brian Lefke.
