Matthew "Matt" Cataline Obituary (1984

Matthew (Matt) Ryan Cataline Age 39, of Eaton Rapids passed away unexpectedly. He was born on April 25, 1984, in Lansing, MI to Jon Cataline and Christine Richmond. Matt attended Eaton Rapids Schools K-11th grade and graduated from Addison High School in 2002. While attending ERHS he was part of the Varsity Football team as both quarterback and linebacker. Although Matt loved playing football, he excelled on the wrestling mat. He was a 3-year member of the Eaton Rapids Varsity Wrestling team and a member of the 1998/1999 State Championship team. Matt was an individual state qualifier, state runner-up and State Champion. He wrestled for Addison High School his senior year. As a youth, he won multiple USA Freestyle Wrestling championships and a National title as an 8th grader. At age 9, Matt won the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition for his age group at the Silver Dome. Matt found joy in watching all things University of Michigan, but mostly football. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hunting and being at the lake. Matt loved music, he was outgoing and was a fearless person. He also enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends and liked being around children. Matt will always be remembered for his charming personality, athletic ability, and infectious smile. He spent most of his adult life employed working with various trades but primarily EIFS plastering. Matt is survived by his son, Tristan Cataline of Eaton Rapids, parents, Jon and Shelley Cataline of Eaton Rapids, Christine Richmond of Clinton. Siblings Melissa (Al) Leven of Eaton Rapids, Ray (Natalie) Cataline of Sterling Heights, Meggin Umbarger (Andrew Sweet) of Potterville, James Richmond of Jackson, Jessica (Casey) McCreedy of South Lyon, grandparents, Marilyn Cataline of Lebanon, KY, Carolyn and Herb Lampman of Eaton Rapids and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Bill Cataline, maternal grandmother Doreen Mueller, maternal grandfather Paul Kennedy, cousins Jamie Cataline and A.D. Thelen. A casual Memorial Service/Luncheon will he held on Saturday, July 29 at 1:00 at the Eaton Rapids Conservation Club, 4483 Freeman Road, Eaton Rapids.
