Lucia Dimas Lopez Obituary (1926 - 2018)

Mom was born in Monterrey Nuevo Leon' Mexico (January 3, 1926). Mother went to heaven to join our father, Maximo Lopez, Sr., her two sons, Pedro Vicente' Lopez Sr., John Lopez and daughter, Juanita Lopez. Her two sisters, Guadalupe D. Lopez and Veva Rodriguez. Also preceded in death was her father, Pedro Vicente' Dimas and her mother, Belen Contreras Dimas. Surviving are her four sons, Maximo Lopez, Jr., Raul Lopez, David Lopez, Sr., Adam Lopez (Lansing, MI) and daughter, Dianna Linda Lopez Hernandez (San Antonio, TX). Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, great-great-great grandchildren, making the total number of grandchildren 129. Mom grew up poor but her childhood was enriched in a fulfillment of memorable times of caring love. Her daily time was spent farming in a small ranchero (ranch). Her mother died at a young age and her father earned a living as a cancion ranchera (traditional mariachi musician) he was a violinist. He became ill and it was up to mom and her sisters to take care of their dying father. We can recall her sharing with us her memories of her running barefoot and free along with her sisters in an oasis of natural beauty. Nearby her was the exquisite view of the Mother's Mountain Range called the Sierra Madre. Mom had a loving, kindness and caring heart for others. We remember our early adolescence years when the whole family would travel up north (Traverse City) during our school vacation and pick fruit - cherries, strawberries and apples. I don't believe we needed the money but we did think dad wanted to instill in us strong work ethics. We'd join migrants from near and far and together this made the work easier for all of us. My father was working for (GM) Fisher Body Plant and he earn a comfortable income back then. On weekends dad would render up the cash to mom who would buy clothes, shoes, food and take it back to the less fortunate migrant workers at these camps. Mom didn't stop here. She would convince the local Pastor from the newly built Spanish church she attended and other members to accompany her to these migrant camps to sing, rejoice and to hold outdoor congregations. This is where moms Christian crusading began to take root. Mom was a modern day activist for Christ. We remember in our formative years when mom and dad and other friends would gather around the Old Rescue Mission on Michigan Ave to hold early prayer meetings. It didn't take long for these few group of spanish-speaking community church on 1314 Ballard St. Her eldest son, Pedro Vincente' Lopez, Sr., assisted in building this church. It was called, "Iglesia Metodista Libre En Espanol," (Free Methodist Church in Spanish) on the north side of Lansing, it is not called the "Methodist Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church." Mom spent her lifetime spreading Gods word to everyone she met. This gave her a deeper purpose in her work towards Christ. God equips his people with everything they need to serve Him and by mom's kindness for others was letting Him know that she was using His instruments of compassion. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018 at The Bread House South in Lansing with Visitation one hour prior.
