Lanny Dean Akers Obituary (1952 - 2017)

Lanny Dean Akers Of Jackson, MI and formerly of Lansing, MI went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at the age of 64. Lanny was born on September 19, 1952 in Paris, Tennessee the son of Henry and Allie (Sigmon) Akers. He attended Everett High School and went on to serve his country as a member of the United States Army. Lanny worked for a short period at Motor Wheel in Lansing before taking a position at Cotton Correctional Facility in Jackson where he retired as the MSI Factory Supervisor in 2015. Lanny was a devote Christian and a loyal member of the Church of God in Jackson. He was active in many of the church functions; he operated the audio system for Sunday services and volunteered as a van driver for church activities. Above all Lanny cherished his family and loved the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joe Akers. Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Sharon; daughter, Rachel (Keli Bashore) Akers; sons, Ken (Dana) Coleson, Doug (Patty) Coleson, Stephen Young; grandchildren, Derek, Devyn, Kayla, Alex, Adam; brothers, Sammy Akers, Randy (Lyn) Akers; sister, Barbara Reynolds; sister-in-law, Mary Akers and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the church of God in Jackson with visitation starting at 11:00.
