Joanne "Jo" Seppala Obituary (1939 - 2023)

Joanne Lee "Jo" Seppala Grand Ledge Went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at the age of 84. Born March 21, 1939 to George and Marion (Stephens) Probst in Lansing, Michigan. Jo's work life was devoted to the Presbyterian Church. First, as a volunteer, while she was a stay-at- home mom with three young children and later working in multiple roles, often at the same time. Her first passion was working as a Director of Christian Education for several different congregations, focused on youth ministry. Filled with positivity, her mission trips and after-school programs taught hundreds of children the love of God and importance of community. She served on her Churches Sessions, the Presbytery, the Synod in her region, and was elected multiple times to serve as a part of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A). She was a role-model for many, and a trailblazer for women in her profession. Outside of work, she was devoted to her family, maintaining a home, a cottage up north, and a cabin in the upper peninsula. In her free-time, Jo loved to read and brought up her children, grands, and greats with a book in their hands. Preceding her in death were her parents. Surviving her are her husband of 64 years, Paul Seppala; children, Michael (Mary Beth) Seppala, Kelli (Mark) Fech, Kristina (Bill) Ether; grandchildren, Ashley (Alex) Terranova, Chad Seppala, Kelci (Heath) Laugal, Treven Fech, Ciarah Fech, Will Ether; great grandchildren, Giana Terranova, Clara Terranova, Dominic Terranova, Keegan Seppala, Kenley Seppala, Lennox Laugal, Briggs Laugal; sisters, Carol Besse, Cathy Basinski; Aunt, Virginia Nash; sister in-law, Sandra (Seppala) Wallen; niece, Dawne (Zach) Bunn; nephews, Bill Wallen and Brett (Danielle) Basinski as well as many extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 7, 2023 at the First Presbyterian Church in Holt. Family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to the service. After services the family extends an invitation to join them for a luncheon, in the Church's fellowship hall, to celebrate the life of this incredible woman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either Grand Ledge Public Schools Scholastic Book Program, or Delta Township District Library, in memory of Jo.
