Potterville, Michigan
Frederick Karl Dotts
Karl, 87, of Potterville, Michigan, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 19, 1938, in Lansing, Michigan, to Forrest and Bertha Dotts and was raised alongside his sister, Judy. Karl attended East Lansing High School, where he played baseball and proudly graduated. He went on to dedicate 33 years of service to the State of Michigan, Department of Transportation (MDOT), working as a Surveyor before retiring. Throughout his life, Karl built a legacy grounded in hard work, honesty, and unwavering dedication to his family.
Karl cherished spending time with his family and enjoyed playing his acoustic guitar and ukulele, solving brain games, and spending time outdoors. He golfed throughout his life and proudly passed his love of the game on to his children. He also enjoyed playing computer games, especially Bookworm and chess, watching science fiction and the History Channel, and was an avid reader, particularly enjoying the novels of Dean Koontz.
Karl had a creative spirit and enjoyed drawing cartoons, including political cartoons later in life, as well as portraits and life drawings. At his workbench, he put that creativity to work crafting custom-made golf clubs. He looked forward to his evening scratch-off tickets and the little bit of excitement they brought to the end of his day. Above all, Karl found joy in the simple things he loved and in the time he shared with the people who meant the most to him.
Karl is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Betty; his loving children, James, Anthony, Sabrina, and Leslie; his grandchildren, Joshua, Mary, Jayden, Kristian, Lucius, Nolan, Kamden, Lori, Judy, and Chuck; his great-grandchildren, William, Dominic, Ajay, Vernell, Semaj, JJ, Joshua, Andrew, and Caleb; and his great-great-grandchildren, Hazel and Veriya. He is now reunited with his son, Robert, and grandson, David, who preceded him in death.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026 at St. Mary Cathedral in Lasing with Fr. John Fain as Celebrant.
