David Bunnell Jr.

–

Lansing, Michigan

David Wallace Bunnell Jr., a humble and inspiring soul, passed away at the age of 96 on March 4, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and service. Born on April 11, 1927, in Hardyville, Kentucky, David's life was a testament to his dedication to God, family, and community. Born as the youngest of eleven children, his spirited journey began on the family farm that he tended to as a child into adulthood; eventually having a farm of his own. His early years sowed the seeds of faith, diligence, perseverance, and unconditional love, traits that would later define his life.

David's service to others extended beyond the boundaries of his family farm. In Kentucky, he served as a volunteer firefighter and was a proud member of the Future Farmers of America. His commitment to community service carried on as he relocated to Lansing, Michigan, where he married the love of his life, Shirley. He made a living as an insurance salesman. However, David was not just about making a living; he was about making a difference. He was a man who found joy in the simple act of mowing lawns for many who could not tend their own yards. This is a testament to his humility and love for serving others. His passion for farming and gardening was not just a hobby, but an extension of his nurturing spirit.

David's unfailing Christian faith was thee guiding light of his life. A longtime member of the Holmes Road Church of Christ, and in more recent years an attendee of South Lansing Christian Church. David lived to be an example of Christ, encouraging others to have their own relationship with the Lord. In the words of Matthew 25:40, "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'" David embodied this verse in his everyday life, serving others with a loving and generous heart. He was often heard saying, "I don't want to be big, I don't want to be small, I want to be a servant of all."

David is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Shirley Bunnell, his sons, Stephen (Beverly) Bunnell, Scott (Monica) Bunnell, and Anthony "Andy" (Ronda) Bunnell, and his daughter Debra (Randall) Willard. Also surviving are his grandchildren, DeeAnn (Chris) Hogan, Stacy Eaton, Jason Eaton, Faith Bunnell, Myra Bunnell, Rebecca (Allen) Spurlock, Korbin (Heather) Bunnell, Cayden (Rachel) Bunnell, Megan (Jake) Rohde, Zacariah Willard, Caycie Willard, Audrey Bunnell, Gabriel Bunnell, many great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
