Daryl Christopher “Birch” Orr
October 12, 1959 – March 27, 2025
Daryl Christopher Orr, known affectionately as “Birch,” passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, at the age of 65. He was born on October 12, 1959, in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, to Carl and Roma Jeanne Orr.
Daryl leaves behind his beloved daughter, Abigail Soper (Josh); his son, Alexander Orr (Rachel); his brother, Jon Orr; his sister, Julieann; his cherished grandchildren, Hope, Elliott, Lily, and Maverick; and his niece, Mallory, and nephew, Trey. He was also deeply loved by his loyal pup, Layla, and countless extended family members and dear friends. Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Roma Jeanne Orr, and his first grandchild, Joseph Ryan Soper.
A musician at heart and a carpenter by trade, Daryl had an unyielding passion for the natural world. He spent countless hours fly fishing for rainbow trout in the Pine River, hunting white-tail deer surrounded by family and friends, and trekking the rugged terrain of Isle Royale. At his core, he loved the outdoors and the adventures it provided, but it was the time spent with loved ones that meant the most to him. Whether teaching his grandchildren how to hunt, fish, cook, or make great grandma’s famous ice cream, or playing a tune around campfire, Daryl’s joy was found in sharing these experiences with those he loved. He also made a tradition of orchestrating good ol’ fashioned barn dances at the farm, where the music and laughter never stopped.
Daryl was known for his boundless patience, his willingness to share and teach his craft, and his incredible generosity. He took great pride in being a good listener and believed in the importance of truly hearing others. His legacy of kindness, love, and wisdom will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of Daryl’s life will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 2:00PM at Skinner Funeral Home – Eaton Rapids Chapel with a visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Isle Royale and Keweenaw Parks Association PO Box 233 Houghton, MI 49931.
