Eaton Rapids, Michigan

Dale Lee “Mr. Dale” McCullough
Of Eaton Rapids, MI, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 30, 2026, at the age of 79. Dale was born on November 27, 1946, in Owosso, MI, the son of William and Betty (Thayer) McCullough. He was raised in Haslett, where he graduated from high school. Dale continued his education at Lansing Community College and later received his Doctor of Human Medicine from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Following his education, he proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard.
Dale spent many years working for the State of Michigan in the Secretary of State's Department before retiring in 1995. Later that same year, he opened Mr. Dale's Trading Cards in Eaton Rapids, which quickly became a familiar and beloved fixture in the community. His shop was well known for its selection of comic books, trading cards, and collectibles, but it was Dale himself who made the business special. He enjoyed decorating the storefront window for the annual Christmas decorating contest and was always ready to greet customers with a genuine smile and kind word. Over the years, he became much more than a local business owner; he became a familiar friend to many in the community.
Dale had a lifelong love of animals and shared his life with many dogs over the years. He also raised Arabian horses, bred West Highland White Terriers, and even had a goat at one time. In addition to his love of animals, Dale was a talented woodworker who specialized in the intricate art of marquetry. He created many beautiful and detailed pieces that he shared with family and friends. Dale also had a generous heart for his community and was involved with SIREN Eaton Shelter, where he took an active role in organizing and leading the annual Christmas toy drive, helping bring joy to local families.
Dale will be remembered for his kind heart, warm smile, love of animals, and the special place he held in the Eaton Rapids community. His presence at Mr. Dale's Trading Cards will be missed by the many friends and customers whose lives he touched over the years.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son, Thomas McCullough; brother, William (Ann) McCullough; sister, Nyleta (Jim) Sanford; niece, Kimberly; nephew, Will; friend and business partner, Matt Hicks; and his beloved dog, Yoda.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids, with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to SIREN Eaton Shelter in memory of Dale.
