Cynthia A. Cartwright

–

Lansing, Michigan

Cynthia A. Cartwright, 61, of North Yarmouth, ME, died on Friday, April 14, 2017, shortly after her cancer diagnosis which she handled with grace and determination. She was born the first child of Charles and Betty Cartwright in Sidney, OH. Cynthia grew up in Eaton Rapids, MI, graduated from ERHS in 1974, and earned her bachelor's degree from Albion College in 1978. She also held a licensure of medical technology, an associate degree in nursing, and a master's degree in educational leadership. She spent most of her adult life living and working in Maine, including the last 25 years working for Maine Medical Center Family Medicine and MaineHealth as a consultant in medical education. She combined her strengths in education with her clinical and science background to develop medical curriculums for multiple fields, write grant proposals and implement grant projects, and serve as a faculty coordinator, all in an effort to improve medical educational programs.

Cynthia was excellent at making the most of the life she was given. She especially enjoyed time with her family at their lake house on Cobbosseecontee Lake in Maine. She loved water skiing, kayaking, hosting friends and family, and spending quiet moments on the deck overlooking the water. Cynthia's favorite two weeks of the year were her family's annual trips to Sanibel Island. The warm sunny weather, bike rides, walks on the beach, and beautiful Florida sunsets got her through cold Maine winters. There were not many activities that could make her happier than reading, discussing, and passing along a good book. She had a fantastic sense of humor, a sharp wit, and a laugh so big and bold it defied anyone in her presence not to smile and laugh right along with her. Above all else, she loved her family deeply; they were the pride and joy of her life. She embraced motherhood with enthusiasm, and she was passionate about the role she played in her girls' lives. Cynthia and Andy were a match made in intellectual heaven. They complemented each other in their strengths and their temperaments, supported each other's passions and dreams, and loved each other without limits. All who knew and loved her count themselves lucky to have had her in their lives.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Craig Cartwright, formerly of Eaton Rapids. She is survived by her husband, Andrew Curtin, of North Yarmouth, ME; daughters Laura Curtin, of Somerville, MA, and Delaney Curtin, of Portland, ME; her parents, Charles and Betty (Hulsmeyer) Cartwright, of Eaton Rapids; her sister, Lori (Eric) Maxey, of Grand Rapids; her brother, Bruce (Deb) Cartwright, of Littleton, CO; and an extended network of nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, in-laws, friends, and coworkers.

A memorial honoring Cynthia's life will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at First United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids, 600 S. Main St., with visitation from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, a celebration of life service beginning at 2:00pm, and a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Cynthia's name to her favorite charities: Planned Parenthood and the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC).
