Carlos Colon-Renta

–

Lansing, Michigan

Carlos Juan Colón Renta, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the age of 82.
Carlos was born on July 20, 1943, in Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico, to Narcisco Colón and Francisca Renta. In the late 1950s, he moved with his family to Lansing, where he made his lifelong home.
He dedicated over 30 years of his career to General Motors, working from the late 1960s until his retirement in the late 1990s. Outside of work, Carlos embraced life fully. He enjoyed playing baseball in Lansing leagues, and bowling for many years in a league at Marvel Lanes. He also loved traveling, especially trips to his cabin in Evart, Michigan, where he found joy in fishing, riding quads, and appreciating his land and the peace it brought him, all while creating memories with family and friends. Returning to Puerto Rico to visit loved ones was always a cherished trip.
Above all, Carlos was a devoted and loving father and grandfather who deeply cherished time spent with his family. He cherished family dinners and movie nights, always valuing the time spent together. Carlos loved grilling and found great joy in the laughter and jokes shared with those he cared about most. As Jen would say, he was the best grandpa anyone could ever ask for—someone you could call anytime and talk to about anything. She will forever treasure the close bond they shared.
Carlos enjoyed listening to his favorite Jíbaro music and Country classics, and he will be remembered by his children as a hero, and by their late mother, Elioza, as the love of her life. He was constantly reminded of how deeply his family loved him, and through his giving nature, he always made sure his loved ones were cared for.
He treasured time spent with his beloved Elioza, especially driving his Pontiac Firebird through the mountains of Puerto Rico. Later, in Michigan, he continued that tradition, taking scenic drives to admire the beauty of the fall colors.
Carlos also loved going on spontaneous casino trips with his family, especially the guys—Javier, C.J., Javie, and Tyler—for a fun night out together.
He is survived by his children, Luz (Francisco) Santiago and Mos Colón; his grandchildren, C.J (Kelly) Colón III, Jennifer (Tyler) McMillen, Javie (Jordan Campbell) Santiago, Shaniece Valencia, Ariana Colón, and Marysa Colón; seven great-grandchildren; his siblings Efrain, Rosin, Manuel, Angel, Luis, Javier, Wanda, Mari, Louisa, Gloria, Ramon, Julio, Samuel and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Elioza Colón; his sons, Carlos Colón Jr. and Jimmy Colón and seven siblings Antonio, Carmen, Jorge, Hector, Victor, Felix and Narcisco.
A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Scarlette Fleury, will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Skinner Funeral Home, Lansing Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, as well as one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Family that will act as pallbearers are grandsons, C.J Colon III, Javie Santiago, Tyler McMillen, and brothers, Mon Colon, Luis Colon, Manuel Colon.
