Arloa Kunkel Obituary (1953 - 2026) - Eaton Rapids, Michigan

Arloa Jean “Jeanne” Kunkel of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, at the age of 72. Jeanne was born on May 29, 1953, in Eaton Rapids, the beloved daughter of Arlo and Isadora (Austin) Thuma. She was raised in Eaton Rapids and graduated with the Class of 1971. In 1970, Jeanne married the love of her life, Gary Kunkel, and together they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, adventure, and hard work. Jeanne spent many years working alongside Gary on their family farm on Gunnell Road, where she took great pride in the life they built together. Always active and full of energy, Jeanne enjoyed taking daily walks along her four-mile trail on the farm, often completing it more than once a day. She also cherished traveling with Gary on motorcycle trips throughout the state of Michigan and enjoyed riding together in Florida while wintering there. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Arthur Thuma; and her brother-in-law, Carl Moist. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Gary Kunkel; her son, Eric (Martha) Kunkel; her daughter, Rachel (Robert) Bodziak; her grandchildren, Riley and Ava Kunkel and Kolya Bodziak; her brother, Arnie (Mary) Thuma; her sister, Sandra Moist; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
